Russia and EastWest Institute (EWI) have signed on Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that emphasize the existence of international norms in information sphere on Thursday, April 6th, 2017, in the Rektorat Building, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, Indonesia. The international norms in the information sphere will be made to prevent information attacks in the future and to uphold information sovereignty of the states, also to build cooperation between states.
Both parties think that infrastructure and information sharing are crucial matters for all parties in the summit and the norms that will regulate them has yet to be made. The international norms that will be made need to accommodate all the national interests from the states.
EWI also wants Russia to be involved in the future dialogue between two parties. As a platform, EWI hopes to engage in meetings with states to talk about the matter so that the states will have the same perception about the norms that will be applicable in their territory. The representative from EWI said that they also open to any kind of discussion and become the platform for the parties. And Russia also commits to actively participate in dialogues that EWI will conduct in the future as Russia believes that sharing experience and information in regards to information infrastructure and information security are important in order to have a better understanding of information sphere. The cooperation between Russia and EWI was not the first for both parties as Russia often attended the meeting such as High-Level Dialogue on Cyber Cooperation and sent expertise in information field because the country is already developed especially for that field.
