Iran and France agreed on developing cooperation on internet infrastructure, specifically in education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday, April 12th, 2017, in Tehran, Iran. To be more precise, the cooperation was done by the Ministry of Education of Iran with the Ministry of Education of France as education will be the focus of this agreement. Both states agreed that the education sector has a strong relation to the internet space. They also committed to build internet-based education that will be focusing on the cyber field.
With the agreement, both states will develop education for the internet field by exchanging technology, exchanging knowledge, and holding joint short courses. Other than that, they will also transfer technology with each other as a means of building the internet space. The agreement also will be the start of the cooperation between France’s L’Institut International de Communication and Sharif University of Technology, by exchanging expertise in the field of information technology. This cooperation is used as the opportunity to make the civil society engage more in this field.
Both states agreed that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is playing an important role in human’s life. Therefore, education that is just as important, needs to be integrated with the internet field to help it develop. This attempt is done to fulfill the need of human resources who are experts in this field.
The representative of Iran said that the cooperation between Iran and France was already built from a long time. But after Iran’s sanction was lifted, both states started to strengthen the cooperation since 2016, by developing the Road Map for Strengthening of Bilateral Relations between Iran and France, and also this agreement. Iran wants to cooperate with France on this because France is capable on the field and the state also known for its high-quality education. Both admitted that they have expected to meet some hardships such as different perspective of each state, also the language barrier, as French rarely use English for communicating and Iran also use the Persian language. But both states said the cooperation will be beneficial for them, also the quantity and quality of the internet education will be improved.
