The United Kingdom officially set Facebook as a legal platform that can connect the government and their society marked by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in front of Audio Visual Room, Faculty of Social and Political Science Building, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, Indonesia.
The other point in the MoU was that the government has chosen Facebook as one of the private sectors to help the country enhancing cyber infrastructure in certain countries. Both parties agreed to cooperate in providing network connection and free basic internet for the countries. Other than that, both also committed to provide capacity building in handling and maintaining infrastructure. Facebook’s vision is to connect people around the world. Therefore, they will support the economic openness of United Kingdom by promoting e-commerce in the country.
The United Kingdom regards Facebook as one of the most dominant corporations in the cybersphere. That is why the country sees this opportunity to cooperate by developing the cyber infrastructure by the programs from Facebook. And they also have the same vision in helping developing countries to improve the internet. By signing the MoU, both parties hope that the cooperation can be increased in the future.
